In 1982 the first activities of therapeutic riding started in Greece due to the initiative of a group of therapists and volunteers. 10 years later, in 1992, the Therapeutic Riding Association of Greece (TRAG) was founded. Members are therapists, parents of disable children and volunteers.

During the first years the work was based totally on volunteers and 3 horses. For the first 12 years the association was hosted by the Equestrian Center of Athens.

In 2004 Ministry of National Defense donated the place where the premises are hosted up to now in Goudi.

Apart from the therapeutic riding lessons TRAG organizes every year an educational programme consisting of theoretical seminars and practice in the premises
In 2012 TRAG has 11 horses from 2 to 18 years old and each week hosts 140 therapeutic sessions. The patients are mainly young people and children with neurological, emotional and mental disorders. Some of them are over 50 years old.

The staff of the association consists mainly of women and more specifically of physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychologist, special education gymnasts, coach riding and riding instructor who is on site 24 hours a day. The staff group includes secretarial support and around 20 volunteers

TRAG is:

  • A Full member of Federation of horses in Education and Therapy international
  • Accredited hosting organization in the framework of “Youth in Action” programme, action 2, European Voluntary Service
  • Accredited organization of social care (Greek Ministry of Health and welfare
  • Member of the Equestrian Federation of Greece
